Chicago Bears Hall of famer, Gales Sayers running the sweep against the Green Bay Packers.  You can sense that Sayers is about to accelerate around the defense, which is why his feet aren’t touching the ground.   The Packer players know that if Sayers should break into the open field, he will be hard to catch.  He had great vision, moves and speed.  It appears that he is about to break off on another run into the end zone.  With the ball in Sayers’ hands, there was always the threat that he was about to take it to the house.  During a period of time in football, when rookies did not play, Gale Sayers scored 20 rookie touchdowns in a year.   He was just too talented to keep on the bench.  Sayers returned kickoffs and punts and was the Bears’ primary running back.  I heard a story about a frustrated Ray Nitshke shouting at Sayers and saying that if he carried the ball one more time, he would bite Sayers’ head off.  Gale Sayers’ replied by maintaining that if Ray did that, Ray would have more brains in his stomach than he has in his head.
